Character Information
Character Name: Miles O'Brien
Canon: Star Trek
Canon Point: Shortly after transferring to Deep Space Nine.
Division and Position: Logistics Officer. Logistics is basically his field of specialty; as Chief of Operations aboard Deep Space Nine, he's responsible for all the maintenance, repairs, and juryrigging that's required to keep the station afloat. It's much the same on the Platform. As for the officer position, despite being an enlisted man he has a pretty long history of being in a position of authority, both as the primary tactical officer on the U.S.S. Rutledge and as Chief of Operations on Deep Space Nine. He has the leadership chops and experience to keep the Platform afloat indefinitely.
History: http://en.memory-alpha.wikia.com/wiki/Miles_O'Brien

Abilities: Miles is an extremely proficient engineer and handyman, and that's by Federation of Planets standards. So much so that at the end of DS9, he's offered a teaching position at Starfleet Academy. Consequently, he knows a lot about technology, computers, physics, mathematics, and how to keep stuff running. He's also picked up more than a little tactical expertise (not to mention dirty tricks) during the Cardassian War.

Personality: Miles is in many ways a long-suffering everyman. He sees the world primarily in fairly simple terms: he has a job to do, and other people had better let him get to it. Because he's so responsible and hardworking, though, he naturally winds up worked to the bone, and he is prone to the occasional bout of grousing when the workload becomes excessive. He just wants a nice, simple task to do, a chance to do some of his hobbies, like playing darts of kayacking, and a good meal or two.

Although Miles has a pretty firm moral compass, he's an extremely practical man, and he's not motivated by high-faluting moral philosophy. He does his best to do the right thing by his own lights, but struggling with the ethical 'big questions' is above his pay grade, and he likes it that way. In fact, while he could have easily sought out an officer's commission by this point in his career, part of the reason why he hasn't is that he's content to leave the big-picture stuff to the officers and just deal with the task in front of him. When circumstances do force an important decision on him, he's visibly uncomfortable in the role.

He is, however, also a rather prejudiced person. While he doesn't harbor any of the 'traditional' human prejudices - sexism, racism, etc. - as those were essentially eradicated by the time he was born, he's pretty quick to generalize about the actions of other species - especially Cardassians, who he fought against in the war - or groups of people. A lot of this comes from his experiences during the war: he was witness to some truly vile wartime atrocities, committed by the Cardassians against the Bajorans whose planets they were occupying. He first saw frontline combat at the Setlik III massacre, where he killed for the first time - in self-defense, but it still weighed on his conscience as well as all the other lives he was forced to take over the course of the war. He hated who he became, and he hated the Cardassians for forcing it on him. And once you start thinking about one species in generalized terms, it becomes a lot easier to do the same with others...

When under pressure, Miles tends push people away. He puts on a cheerful front, but he always wants to take care of his issues on his own, even when surrounded by people who want to help him. He has more than a healthy dose of toxic machismo.

Finally, he's very much a family man. He loves his wife and daughter, and will go to extreme lengths to keep them safe and happy. He doesn't like being separated from them for very long - meaning he won't be very happy about being shipped off to a completely different universe.

Motivation: Miles was recruited through Starfleet, and reassigned from his position on Deep Space Nine. In addition to the usual purposes, Starfleet Intelligence has given him an extra mission: to, surreptitiously, determine how the Company's Dimensional Transporter technology works, so that the Federation can use it for their own purposes.

Questionnaire: Please fill out the following questionnaire as your character. This will be used as your RP sample.

Q: WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS YOUR GREATEST STRENGTH?

I suppose that'd have to be that I'm a hard worker. I can't remember the last time I took shore leave. Oh, and I'm a fair hand with a tool kit, too, so there's that.

Q: WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS YOUR GREATEST WEAKNESS?

Don't suppose I can get out of this one, eh? Well, I suppose...I'm not ambitious, right? I like where I'm at, I don't feel the need to go any higher. Some people'd consider that a weakness, at any rate.

Q: RECALL A TIME YOU HAD TROUBLE WITH A COLLEAGUE AND HOW YOU HANDLED IT.

Oh, I don't know. I'm easy to get along with, I think.

Well, there was that one time when I had to talk my old CO down from starting a whole new war with the Cardassians.

Or when the ensign wanted to jettison the drive section.

Or that blasted Cardie computer they're making me work with. I still haven't really handled that, though. Going to take a few years at least to overhaul her completely. Flushing it right out the airlock'd be faster, but then where would we be?

Or - oh, I've got it! Doctor Bashir! I can't stand his smug attitude. Can't get rid of him, though, so I just do what I always do with officers: keep smiling and wait for them to go away.

...can I get back to you on this?

Q: WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF FIVE YEARS FROM NOW?

Still plugging away in the belly of some starship or another, I imagine. Or a station, I suppose. I can't imagine doing anything else. Maybe have another kid or two underfoot, eh?

Q: IF YOU FOUND OUT YOUR SUPERVISOR WAS DOING SOMETHING AGAINST COMPANY POLICY, WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

Depends on the policy, and why he was doing it, I suppose. If he's just stealing from the stores or something, you've got to report that. But if he was just cutting corners to get the job done, well...a man's got to be reasonable.

Varric Tethras | Dragon Age

[personal profile] brightwing 2015-08-25 04:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Player Information
Name: Levi
Journal: [personal profile] brightwing
Contact: [plurk.com profile] shiningkestral
Characters Currently in the Game: N/A

Character Information
Character Name: Varric Tethras
Canon: Dragon Age
Canon Point: Post Inquisition
Division and Position: Logistics, mainly working in keeping inventory counts accurate and seeing them distributed to the proper people. He is a top tier merchant, he knows how to keep tabs on items coming and going into his custody. He prefers not to be an officer because he hates writing reports.
History: Varric @ Dragon Age Wiki.

As Dragon Age is a game with variable choices, here is a list of important choice details I'm choosing to play with:

Dragon Age II

- Female mage Hawke
- Killed Bartrand
- Kept the Red Lyrium shard
- Sided with the mages

Dragon Age: Inquisition

- Male mage elf Inquisitor
- Recruited the mages
- Saved Empress Celine
- Hawke survived

Abilities:

- Varric is a merchant prince. He knows the wheels and deals of business.
- Very social and likable, he makes a lot of friends.
- At the same time, he deals a lot with spying and secrets and all sorts of underhanded business.
- He is quite handy with his repeating crossbow, Bianca. He can defend himself if needed.
- A rogue, he is skilled in picking locks and disarming traps.
- He is also an artificer, and capable of making traps himself.
- Adept at worming his way into things and a talented tagalong. If he wants to come with you, it's probably easier just to let him.
- An incredible and shameless liar.

Personality:

"Bianca, baby, introduce yourself!"

As far as dwarves go, Varric Tethras is very un-dwarflike. He has a disdain for virtually all aspects of dwarven culture, he doesn't see dwarves as inherently superior to all other races, and perhaps most damning of all, he hates being underground. Absolutely detests it. Some of this can be attributed to the fact that he was born and raised on the surface, but it can mostly be due to the fact that it is simply not how Varric Tethras rolls.

"Varric Tethras, at your service."

Hailing from the merchant family, House Tethras, Varric is well versed in social skills and his favorite method of choice when dealing with people is humor and sarcasm. He is often ready with a joke for the situation and he is quite fond of teasing people and giving them nicknames. A sign that Varric likes you is if he gives you a nickname, although some people just aren't nicknameable. Which is a shame, if you ask him. Although he comes from a wealthy and powerful family (at least, on the surface), Varric is most at home with the lower dregs of society. He believes you can't truly know people or a society from just its upper elite, you must know the common people. That, and drunken thugs are actually less likely to threaten his life than most other people he knows. As a result, he can often be found drinking and playing cards with just about anyone.

It may seem like he partakes in a lot of time wasting, but it serves a very important purpose - Varric is someone who knows how to use his social and business ties to his advantage. Knowing the right people can get you quite far in life. Friendship is a great way to get people to cooperate with you. And in the absence of that, coin and (as a last resort) threats also work. Varric is a strong believer in the power of information and he accumulates it via his social network and if he must, by using spies. From news of shady deals to gossip, Varric finds a use for a lot of what he learns.

What Varric is most known for, however, is how much he likes to talk to the point where he occasionally will self narrate his life. The man is full of stories and he is far too willing to share them. He fancies himself as an author and actually is a rather good storyteller who has published some novels. (Some of it filthy. A lot of it filthy. They sell quite well.) Varric possesses a large vocabulary and flaunts it from time to time. A self-proclaimed liar, he prioritizes entertainment over authenticity - what good is a story where the audience loses interest halfway through? But he always does tell what happens, he just...spices it up a little. Varric is a natural entertainer, and few things delight him more than the look of a person who is fully enveloped in a good story. The stories don't always live up to reality, however. Varric often uses his stories to dwell on the past, telling how he should have done things instead of how he actually did do them. Although he is vain and possesses a huge ego, Varric dislikes talking about personal things and prefers to make other people the stars of the story. He will not, however, hesitate to mention the hero's charming, roguish dwarf sidekick with a heart of gold.

The heart of gold thing's no lie either. Varric is a busy man and he keeps company with...questionable people, but he is also very kind. He fusses endlessly over his friends and it's common for him to stick his nose into their business to the point where it can get annoying. He will go very far, using whatever means he can to protect them such as paying off thugs to leave them alone. Even though this causes him much stress and mild despair at the loss of money. What a great friend. He's usually willing to help people out, even ones he's just met, especially if they appeal to his better nature. He appreciates skill and finesse and perhaps a little bit of greed, but never outright brutish behavior. He values family (although his relationship with his own is rather complicated) and friends and he doesn't like people who are unnecessarily aggressive and violent. Because of this, he doesn't take to betrayal very kindly and holds fierce grudges against people who cross him. When he's upset, Varric is much more open to the idea of violence. Some people just deserve a crossbow bolt to the face and Varric will gladly supply faces lacking in the bolt department.

"Bianca, you minx! That was beautiful!"

Varric's most prized possession is his crossbow, which he has named Bianca. He treats Bianca like a person (or more accurately, a lover), and can also be found speaking to her, even in the heat of battle he can be heard lavishing her with praise. He adores her and makes no secret of the fact that he does. Varric and Bianca are never far apart from each other and he refuses to use any weapon other than her. In fact, it's difficult to tell if he's joking or if he really is in love with his crossbow. There's a lot of history between the two of them, but it's a closely guarded secret - Varric claims that the story of Bianca is the one he can never tell. He might come up with a little short story about how he acquired her, but only a precious few know her true origins, mostly because those origins walked up to them and said hi.

"You must have me confused with someone else! I'm just a businessman and a storyteller."

The problem with having a mouthy dwarf as a friend is that he likes to talk. A lot. And that he might talk about things you don't want him to talk about. Not everyone appreciates having half true stories told about them (and they like "friend-fiction" even less), nor might they appreciate Varric nagging them if he thinks they're doing something wrong. He can be quite rude and enjoys dirty humor and can sometimes come off as insensitive. He will let you know when he's not happy by complaining, and he grumbles and whines when he loses a card game. Which, despite how it sounds, actually shows quite a bit of maturity and self control. Dwarves are known to kill people who beat them at cards. Varric enjoys being mischievous and annoying his friends by being coy and playing pranks, but it's rather easy for him to cross the line and can sometimes end up causing real problems for them. Not to mention that as someone who takes part in shady deals, there's always the chance that the shady deal is much shadier than it appears at first glance.

Perhaps because he's an oddity among dwarves and doesn't like basically everything about dwarven culture, Varric is disinterested in heritage in general and believes that cultural traditions are nothing more than pretentious trappings that prevent society from progressing and does nothing but cause problems. A rogue to the core, Varric has no qualms against petty crime and partakes in theft and pickpocketing from time to time. He simply cannot help it: he is a dwarven merchant and dwarven merchants like money. His primary method of dealing with big problems is to ignore them and pretend they don't exist by making himself scarce which not only surprisingly solves nothing, it often has the side effect of making them worse. However, a sense of responsibility and guilt always eventually bring him back and he deals with them rather reluctantly.

Also he rarely, if ever, answers his mail.

Motivation: He is here on the account of the Inquisition. The Inquisition (and he, personally) is currently looking into a way to safely destroy or purify Red Lyrium, a dangerous and addictive substance that makes those who ingest or even just exposed to it more powerful, but also causes them to lose their minds.

Questionnaire: Please fill out the following questionnaire as your character. This will be used as your RP sample.

Q: WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS YOUR GREATEST STRENGTH?

My charming good looks, naturally. My storytelling comes second. And at a third, my aim with my dear Bianca.

Q: WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS YOUR GREATEST WEAKNESS?

Definitely kids. I see one in trouble and I just have to help out. I'm just too nice of a guy.

Q: RECALL A TIME YOU HAD TROUBLE WITH A COLLEAGUE AND HOW YOU HANDLED IT.

Okay, so one time Cassandra got really, really angry at me because I said I didn't know where Hawke was. Although I. Kind of did. So I did what any brave and manly man would do and stood up to her. Told her to lay off. And she was so impressed she totally did then brought me a drink.

Q: WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF FIVE YEARS FROM NOW?

In a tavern, drinking the shittiest beer in existence. It's a good life.

Q: IF YOU FOUND OUT YOUR SUPERVISOR WAS DOING SOMETHING AGAINST COMPANY POLICY, WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

That depends on what it is they're doing. There's a big difference between sleeping on the job and sleeping on the job when you're supposed to be piloting the big metal thingy that holds the fate of our fragile, fragile little lives.

Zecora | My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic | Not Reserved

Characters Currently in the Game: N/A

Character Information
Character Name: Zecora
Canon: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
Canon Point: Post S4e2
Division and Position: Medical, direct patient care (on and away from the station). Zecora's skill with potions and brews makes a valuable supplement to scientific means of care, and can also provide treatments those scientific means cannot. Zecora is also wise and sensible, and thus suited to mental care as well as physical. As a side benefit, her size and quadrupedal nature can offer her physical advantages on some away missions.
History: Wiki wiki

Abilities: Zecora is a master potion brewer, capable of preparing brews for almost any necessity provided she has access to the ingredients. She can also create powders and other substances with supernatural effects such as illusions. She also appears to be, in fact, a subtle and powerful user of magic; though she's only ever been observed conjuring water, Twilight Sparkle states she learns a very great deal from Zecora, and Zecora herself states that she is both powerful and practically unbeatable in magic -- and Zecora doesn't boast casually or talk herself up.

More mundanely, Zecora is incredibly knowledgeable about a wide variety of subjects.

Personality: In broad strokes, Zecora is a classic 'wise hermit' character. She has a great deal of wisdom and knowledge and is entirely willing to share it; she is also quite worldly, having come from a land so far away that zebras aren't even common knowledge to the average Ponyville resident.

Zecora can be quick to anger -- most of her appearances end up with her shooting a look at somepony who's just messed up whatever she was in the middle of -- but generally that look and possibly a wry remark are enough to work it out. She rarely stays mad for very long; even after her entire house is wrecked, she quickly forgives all involved once the reasons come out, despite the reason being that the ponies responsible had decided she was evil on shoddy evidence. Despite these flashes of irritation, Zecora has immense patience, tolerance, and understanding -- particularly for younger ponies. She is quick to forgive mistakes, and quick to offer aid when ponies are in need.

Though remarkably blase about the very real dangers of the Everfree Forest, which likely are not any more fearsome than her homeland, Zecora is not immune to fear. When Princess Luna makes her ill-advisedly-dramatic entrance on Nightmare Night and Pinkie Pie suggests that Nightmare Moon has come, Zecora takes off in a panic the same as everypony else. Clearly, though perfectly prepared to deal with manticores, basilisks, and even dragons, Zecora very clearly draws the lines at ultimate evils.

If Zecora has a major flaw, it's that she comes off much, much creepier than she intends to. She lives in the Everfree Forest, presumably because it is more comfortable and home-like than Ponyville. This behavior is, at least to start with, so feared and incomprehensible to the inhabitants of Ponyville that they closed the entire city down and hid when Zecora camesto town every month. Her home is decorated with creepy, ominous-looking masks that are intended to welcome guests; she wears a cloak that covers her face and makes her eyes shine an ominous yellow; her zebra language sounds like evil incantations, and she has a tendency to deliver helpful warnings in a way that sounds like she's cursing the person she's trying to advise.

Once she gains the acceptance of Ponyville, Zecora seems to value it quite highly -- to the extent that when she returns at a time when Ponyville has coincidentally been locked down and evacuated, she believes it's because of her presence and delivers a shockingly bitter couplet about how she should have just stayed home.

Zecora also tells the story of Nightmare Moon with obvious relish and enjoyment... and just a bit of over-the-top glee. She's somewhat theatrical by nature anyway, but when given the chance to really go wild, she does so with delight.

Motivation: Zecora is looking for more information, more knowledge, and more wisdom. She is curious and the prospect of a whole new world, with a return at the end of her time, was all it took to tempt her. Her contract stipulates that she will be given help cultivating plants and life forms so they can be safely brought to Equestria and transplanted as tame crops for her use.

Questionnaire:

Q: WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS YOUR GREATEST STRENGTH?

If I had to choose
I would first start with brews.
My potions and mixes
Are useful fixes.
And thought I hate to brag
My knowledge does not lag.
I know a great deal
To be used for woe or weal.
And last, a rare talent where I am from:
I have no small measure of wisdom.

Q: WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS YOUR GREATEST WEAKNESS?

From your perspective, you would understand
If I said it was that I had not one single hand.

Q: RECALL A TIME YOU HAD TROUBLE WITH A COLLEAGUE AND HOW YOU HANDLED IT.

A dragon friend I happen to know
Was stricken by something that made him grow.
In truth it was his dragon greed
Surfacing, and to fill his need
He robbed my hut from roof to floor.
I cannot guess how he got it all out the door.
However, anger would not do
Though I was angry, it is true.
But I waited till he came to his senses
And apologized with no defenses.
The lesson of this little tale
Is patience and understanding, without fail
Will see you through these rough times.
So forgive a colleague their unmeant crimes.

Q: WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF FIVE YEARS FROM NOW?

I will return to the Everfree
With my plants, contractually.
I have no ambition
For any other transition.

Q: IF YOU FOUND OUT YOUR SUPERVISOR WAS DOING SOMETHING AGAINST COMPANY POLICY, WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

The question is not specific,
So my answer is not terrific.
In this case, it always tends
To become, "It depends".
A pony who means no trouble
Might mend her ways on the double
With a word, swiftly heard
So doing more would be absurd.
But someone who would hurt or pain
Another pony, for no gain
Must be dealt with, with all haste.
I would report that, no time to waste.

Soma Cruz | Castlevania

[personal profile] notquitedracula 2015-08-26 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
Player Information
Name: Matt
Journal: None
Contact: Plurk: m_logan_2k2 Skype: mlogan2k2
Characters Currently in the Game: N/A

Character Information
Character Name: Soma Cruz
Canon: Castlevania (Sorrow arc)
Canon Point: Post-Dawn of Sorrow
Division and Position: Security and/or Research. He has talents and experience that are uniquely suited to both roles, especially when it comes to fighting and exploration.
History: Castlevania Wiki, Soma's entry. His actual complete history includes that of Dracula, which is also available on the wiki.

Abilities:
Soma's primary ability is the Power of Dominance. Using it, he can steal the souls of vanquished monsters and demons, taking one of their abilities for his own use. Mostly this applies to the denizens of the Castle, but should a situation arise where it would be useful for him to acquire new abilities from this setting, I will request mod permission to do so. I should note that he *cannot* steal the souls of living humans or near-humans.

He also has a predatory aura - people literally feel like there's a large predator in the room when he's around. Anyone who knows what a derp he really is can pretty safely ignore this, but a first contact situation could get dicey if he's the first person the locals meet.

Personality:
Most people, on first meeting Soma, will notice three things. One, he's awfully pale. Two, he gives them the creeps (vampiric aura, and no, he doesn't know how to shut it off; these days it functions as part of his not-quite-human-anymore sensory package). Three, he looks like he should be a snob. That impression lasts about until he opens his mouth and proves that he's just a confused and slightly awkward teenager with a lot more mileage than most. He's well-heeled and polite, has a mildly self-deprecating sense of humor that's only slightly goofy these days ('I'm a lot cooler now'), and he's utterly clueless about romance, despite caring so deeply for his few friends that he'll literally cut a bloody swath through Hell for them. Oh, and he's got a decent measure of snark if the situation calls for it.

The fact that Dracula's soul and memories reside within him causes Soma a good bit of distress. There are times when he can't be sure if a thought is his own or if it's influenced by Dracula's experiences; it's made him a great deal more wary of both his own emotions and people in general. Given that his and Dracula's souls are so tightly bound, it's unlikely he'll ever be able to separate the two - so he's going to have to learn to live with it, and that's not going to be easy. The biggest conflicts are over his feelings towards humanity and God - Dracula hates them, Soma is ambivalent leaning toward 'they're alright' with obvious exceptions for his friends.

His closest emotional bonds are with Mina; he returns to the courtyard several times just to check on her during the course of Aria, and her slowly deteriorating condition (despite Alucard's barrier) worries him deeply. If he were any less clueless, they'd be a strong couple by now; as it is their friends are being patient with them, knowing it'll happen... eventually. Needless to say, she's the key to whether he'll end up going one way or the other with regards to the Dark Lord thing - her apparent death is used in Dawn by cultists as a catalyst to attempt to bring about his transformation into Dracula.

In summation, he's fiercely loyal and very disciplined despite his young age, but still manages to be a pretty laid-back person even after his abortive apotheosis, and he's kind of a derp at times.

Motivation:
Mostly, Soma's looking for a way to suppress his darker nature. If he can earn enough to live comfortably for the rest of his life into the bargain, well, he's okay with that.

Questionnaire: Please fill out the following questionnaire as your character. This will be used as your RP sample.

Q: WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS YOUR GREATEST STRENGTH?
Adaptibility, hands down. I can use my abilities in a variety of ways that can be tailored to fit almost any situation, and if what I have isn't enough, odds are good I can improvise an alternative.

Q: WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS YOUR GREATEST WEAKNESS?
Apart from being chronically anemic, I have a slight allergy to sunlight. It's not as bad as it could be, but I burn really easily if I don't take precautions.

Q: RECALL A TIME YOU HAD TROUBLE WITH A COLLEAGUE AND HOW YOU HANDLED IT.
There's this Vampire Hunter named Julius. Older gentleman, absolute master of the bullwhip and cross. He uses them to kill monsters and demons. Well, he took it into his head at one point that I was one of them - a monster - that needed to be taken out... and I'm still not entirely sure he was wrong. Well, we fought, and while I won, I knew it was because he held back his full strength. We're still good friends to this day, but he's promised me that if I ever do give in to darkness, he'll be there to bring me down.

Q: WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF FIVE YEARS FROM NOW?
Hopefully, back home living a relatively normal life. At least, as normal as someone like me can lead.

Q: IF YOU FOUND OUT YOUR SUPERVISOR WAS DOING SOMETHING AGAINST COMPANY POLICY, WHAT WOULD YOU DO?
It depends on a couple of factors, mostly the policy in question and exactly how they were acting against it. If it was for the right reasons, I'd probably help - but if they were trying to hurt people, or doing something that would endanger either the locals or us, I'd put a stop to it, then file a report.

Character Information
Character Name: Greed
Canon: Fullmetal Alchemist Manga
Canon Point: Towards the end of chapter 29, just before he is captured by Bradley.
Division and Position: Security Officer. Greed is always at his best when he’s got people to look out for, and if he’s protecting a platform and it’s crew, those are his and he’s not going to want anything else to claim it. (His ultimate shield could also come in useful when protecting people.)
History: FMA Greed Wikia

Abilities: Greed’s core is a philisopher’s stone, which allows him to regenerate (so long as he hasn’t used up all the energy it’s comprised of) and use his ultimate shield (he can’t do both at once though). His ultimate shield can be raised and dropped at his own will, and he can make it into the weakest or strongest forms of carbon.

Personality:

Much like his name would lead one to believe, Greed wants everything.
He was created for all intents and purposes to, firstly, purge his creator of the human-like vice that Greed represents and, secondly, to do his creator’s bidding. But that did not sit well with him, for Greed could never settle for being a humble minion, it simply is not in his nature.

This, and the fact that his creator only used his creations as pawns spurned Greed’s rebellious nature. He walked away from his creator and never looked back.

He even took some of his creator’s experiments with him. They follow him not just because he accepts their oddities, but because deep down, they are more than just minions to him. In order to maintain his “cool and detached” front (even to himself), he never tells his followers how much they mean to him, and even represses how much he cares until someone reminds him(long after they have been killed) that they were his friends.

He values all of his possessions as if they were his only possession.

Despite the fact that he has always been told he is superior to humans, he never underestimates them. He knows what greed can make humans capable of, and will use that to his advantage. He knows how to strike a good deal, whether it be goods for money or information for information, guessing someone’s price is his forte. Just because he wants everything, that doesn’t mean he is a penny-pincher, he appreciates the true value of everything and will pay it, and if he can’t pay for it, he’ll take it by force.

He also enjoys showing off what he’s got. Going to far as to have his followers attack him to show off his regenerative abilities. He is so confident in himself that even if it seems like he is on losing side of a fight, that he won’t back down. He doesn’t like to harm women and children, always asking that they stay out of the fight. But, if they insist on fighting, he won’t go easy on them.

If asked, he will say his one motivation in life is to rule the world. It is part of him wanting everything, but he also doesn’t mind spending his days in the back of a seedy bar with his followers, enjoying the luxurious of being a gang boss (free booze, pretty ladies, stylish clothes, and overall fun times).

When confronted with the choice of putting either himself or his followers in harms way, he will always put himself out there first and protect them with all he’s got. They are his, and he’ll be damned if he lets anyone else lay a finger on them or take them away.

Sometimes, it takes others pointing out the truth about him for him to notice it. One being as stated, that his followers were more than just that, they were friends. The other being that what he really wants isn’t to rule the world, but to have friends that will stay by his side through thick and thin. What he wants is happiness for himself and for his friends. And he will sacrifice anything for that, even his last bit of life. And if something does happen to one of his friends, then he won’t hesitate to avenge them.

Motivation: Greed was recruited directly just as the odds were ripe for him to need a way out of dodge. He’s looking for a way to overcome his siblings and Father, so that he can be free to do as he wants. And proper immortality, he’d like that.

Questionnaire: Please fill out the following questionnaire as your character. This will be used as your RP sample.

Q: WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS YOUR GREATEST STRENGTH? My ability to adapt quickly to fit the situation.

Q: WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS YOUR GREATEST WEAKNESS? I don’t like it when people take my things.

Q: RECALL A TIME YOU HAD TROUBLE WITH A COLLEAGUE AND HOW YOU HANDLED IT. I used to work for a guy who liked to experiment on people, but we had a disagreement, so we parted ways. It’s top secret information, so I can’t really talk about it. From then on, I decided I would be self-employed.

Q: WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF FIVE YEARS FROM NOW? Five years is like the blink of an eye for a guy like me, but if I’m still working for you (I’m not sure how long it will take to find what I’m looking for), maybe I could be in charge of searching another planet.

Q: IF YOU FOUND OUT YOUR SUPERVISOR WAS DOING SOMETHING AGAINST COMPANY POLICY, WHAT WOULD YOU DO? It would depend on what my supervisor is doing. If he’s doing something like pissing off the side of a platform, I wouldn’t care much. Now, if he’s doing something to screw over the company or people we’re working with, I’d report him.

Re: REVISIONS

[personal profile] allofthethings 2015-09-04 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Greeds goal in life is pretty simple. He wants everything, and he'll do anything short of betraying people he likes in order to attain that goal. He's a pretty ambitious guy. Though, he is a bit old fashion. He doesn't like to fight women, but he will if they force his hand. While he is very flirtatious, he is a does respect women, he just likes to have some fun. He would definitely say all work and no play makes Greed a dull boy. After a hard day's work he would head for a local pub to relax and chat with people.

He is very stubborn, and won't back down once he's started something. Someone telling him he can't accomplish something is just motivation for him to accomplish it.

When he has a bad day, he would rather sulk to himself than take it out on others. That said, if someone has purposely ruined his day, he will try and get back at them. Although, if someone wanted to have a good spar with him, that can be a good way to energize him.

When his ambition isn't showing on the forefront most people will find him to be a pretty carefree and cheerful guy. He's easy to talk to, and easily talks with others.

Character Information
Character Name: The Doctor (The Eleventh Doctor)
Canon: Doctor Who
Canon Point: Between seasons 6 and 7 It should be noted that his canon point is before some events mentioned in the linked wiki articles, events which would affect his view of the universe and himself.
Division and Position: Science and Research Division. The Doctor’s lifestyle revolves around exploring mysterious places and investigating mysterious circumstances. He tackles challenges along the way through observation, analysis, and use of his vast knowledge. He has the mentality, interest, and experience best suited to the Science division.

History: Wiki page about The Doctor, Wiki page about the Eleventh Doctor specifically Contain major spoilers.

A quick (less spoiler-y) intro to Doctor Who for those who aren’t familiar with it:

The Doctor has a long history, but to sum it up, he is one of a humanoid alien race from the planet Gallifrey known as the Time Lords. The Time Lords were once an incredibly powerful race known for their time travel technology and their connection with the Time Vortex. This allowed them, if they saw fit, to travel through space and time. They could do as little as observe or as much as manipulate the universe, paradoxes, and alternate realities. Time Lords usually live incredibly long lives, easily thousands of years long, and possess the ability to regenerate when their body dies, giving them a new body and extending their years, or allowing them to live on after mortal wounds.

In his earlier years The Doctor traveled through time like most Time Lords, in a TARDIS space ship with a variety of companions. He was at times rebellious and broke rules the Time Lords had set out preventing interference with other races. He regenerated several times usually as a result of danger he had run into during his travels. In the later years of his eighth incarnation The Doctor would get involved in the Last Great Time War, a battle between the Time Lords and another alien race, The Daleks.

By his ninth incarnation, the Last Great Time War had ended but The Doctor was the sole survivor after he made a decision that stopped the war but destroyed Gallifrey and ended the Time Lord and Dalek races. This was how he became the last of the Time Lords, though the Daleks would find ways to return. His memories of battle would haunt him and his pain was often only soothed by the kindness of newly met friends and companions. By his tenth incarnation, The Doctor had an unmistakable feeling of responsibility for the safety of the human race, especially those who were his friends. Unfortunate events would separate him permanently from some of these friends or force him to leave them. Eventually the doctor regenerated again, now in his eleventh form, the canon point this application is for. His companions as of late include his best friend Amelia “Amy” Pond, Amy’s husband Rory, and occasionally the sassy River Song.

Abilities:
I have an extended list of the talents and abilities The Doctor has displayed over the years of the tv show here. Below I’ve listed out his especially important and game-relevant abilities.

Telepathy- Time Lords have natural telepathic abilities. These were most often used for communication and sharing information. The Doctor has successfully used his telepathy to erase and change others' memories, and start or stop pain, but it’s fair to say his capabilities are less powerful and aggressive than the average telepathic character. He’s better at defending his own mind (ie kicking out the enemy trying to get into his head) than bothering others and would need the psychic support of others to “power up." (He once temporary gained telekinetic abilities this way.) His telepathy is generally more successful when he makes physical contact with the other person. The Doctor’s telepathy might come in handy for communication.

Polyglot– The ability to speak and understand multiple languages. He speaks both Earth languages, alien languages, and even speaks baby and several animal languages such as horse. He writes and reads in many of these. The Doctor could help serve as a translator during the exploration of Atreus. For those who speak languages he doesn’t know there’s also the option to use telepathy to communicate. This requires some contact or willingness from both parties to work though. If The Doctor’s ship, the TARDIS, is present it can aid in translation, including that of the written word. The Doctor’s companions are able to automatically hear and see the TARDIS’ translations. This could be extended to other individuals in the company.

Special senses- The Doctor’s senses are generally more heightened and precise than a human’s. He can identify certain materials and their age by licking items. He can pinpoint smells well and he can hear frequencies out of human hearing range. His high sensitivity will help for safety and investigation purposes.

Time and Space Vortex Connection- Time Lords understand and sense time on another level. Other species of time travelers can remember things and sense some things that regular people can’t but Time Lords are natural experts. If time is somehow manipulated by people on Atreus he’ll be able to sense it.

Highly intelligent and experienced- His most impressive ability and the reason he’s still alive after 900 plus years of danger. The Doctor is well versed in the sciences and arts, having learned the advanced science of the Time Lords and studying new information and skills during his travels. He has great engineering abilities, and can make new helpful tools out of household knick knacks. He has a strong, sharp mind and is a quick thinker, used to coming up with ways out of danger under pressure. With his experience exploring new places and meeting new peoples, he’ll make a good candidate to help explore Atreus.

Body control and endurance- Time Lords have great control over their bodies to help ensure survival. In the past The Doctor has put himself in a coma to speed up his recovery after injury. His body can withstand cold, heat, and radiation much more than a regular human.
When a Time Lord body is dealt a fatal blow or becomes too withered with age, they will regenerate and gain a new body. This new body will look different from their last one and their personality will undergo some changes. The Doctor at this canon point has gone through many past regenerations (he’s called the Eleventh for a reason). It is possible to die before regeneration is complete if the process is somehow interrupted, by another wound for example, or if an individual has run out of regeneration energy and cannot access more. (I do not intend for an actual regeneration event to come up in the RP.)

Special belongings:

The TARDIS- [Wiki Link] A Time Lord ship that can travel through both space and time. On the outside it looks like a Police Box and is the size of a phone booth, on the inside it is far larger and The Doctor’s entire home of sorts. Bedrooms, a pool, a library, a control room and engine room, etc all exist within it. The TARDIS is a very powerful piece of Time Lord technology and The Doctor only allows select people on board usually. He has a telepathic connection to it and the TARDIS can aid with translation, technology building, and calculations. At times it is faulty.

NOTE: I do not intend to use the TARDIS in any way that will break the game or give The Doctor an advantage over others. (So no popping back into Atreus’s past to conveniently find out all its secrets.) Most of the time the TARDIS will be standing in The Doctor’s assigned room and he’ll sleep in there and access his clothes and such inside. It is also more in character for The Doctor to pop in and pop out of a long-term residence like the Platform. With time travel as an option he can leave to adventure elsewhere and return to the same time he left before he is missed at work. If the Mods or Players find a need for a time travel event in our RP then I’d certainly be open to volunteering the TARDIS for that.

Sonic Screwdriver- [Wiki Link] A handheld device mainly used for picking locks and scanning people, surroundings, and things. Its ability is sound based and it makes a loud buzzing noise when used. It has other functions, such as being used as a microphone or to seal small flesh wounds. The Doctor often uses it to tinker with technology, repair, or build contraptions. It is ineffective on wood and not always reliable, especially when damaged.

Psychic Paper- [Wiki Link] A small pad of blank paper that can take on the appearance of any document its user imagines. The Doctor has used it to get money and as fake legal documents among other things. Particularly brilliant minds such as William Shakespeare are able to see past the illusion. Other characters can use it easily. It can also pick up on incoming psychic messages, sometimes cries for help.

Personality:
Child-like and old, funny and sad, cruel and kind; The Doctor is all of these simultaneously.

From the moment one meets The Doctor they can tell there's something different about him. He's an odd fellow; very animated and enthusiastic, resembling a cartoon character, and always with something on his mind and something to say. He's outgoing and friendly to most but blunt. If you annoy him he'll tell you, if you impress him he'll cheer for you, if your nose is large he'll let you know. He's childlike and always curious, often asking questions, stopping to talk to strangers, and poking his nose in odd places. Having lived a life full of adventure for hundreds of years he has little interest in sitting around waiting. When one has a time machine there is no need to wait to get to the interesting part of life; The Doctor can be terribly impatient and will complain if he grows bored. "Is this how time normally passes?" He doesn't concern himself with being normal; to him there are bigger fish to fry than worrying about whether or not everyone likes him. When there are evil aliens trying to invade the Earth why focus on what others think of the hat he's wearing? In fact he has saved the world wearing a fez. When there are extraordinary phenomenon to witness throughout space and time, why stop for boring things like company policies and paperwork? Race car toys on the other hand might be worth taking a moment.

While many people know him for his nutty professor personality, many others meet The Doctor in difficult situations and see a very different side of him. The Doctor's adventures have included many hardships, carrying heavy circumstances. As enthusiastic as he is for adventure, The Doctor is an old soul weighed down by past tragedies and mistakes. Many times he has had the lives of others in his hands and had to choose who would live and who would die. In serious moments The Doctor is very stern and focused. He hates violence and prefers to outwit and trick his opponents rather than resort to force. As many times as he has been successful it does little to take away from the pain he feels over the times he has lost. Beloved family and friends have been lost right before his eyes, several in circumstances he believes he could have prevented. He has witnessed battle and genocide and played a large role in the Time War between the Time Lords and the Daleks. Long story short, Doctor used an ancient weapon to end the war, bringing about the destruction of the Daleks but also his own home planet and people in the process. He is still haunted by his actions that day, and rarely talks about the subject even to close friends. The Doctor has a lot of self-blame and self-hatred hidden inside of him and a quiet wish for redemption.

The Doctor is very protective of his loved ones and of the weak and kind. Earth is a surrogate home and the human race is breathtaking in his eyes. Threaten humanity or another peaceful planet and you will suffer The Doctor's wrath. Many enemies have been shooed away by The Doctor cleverly shutting down their plans and warning them not to return; no lives lost on either side. Enemies as ruthless as the Daleks however bring out the more extreme and harsh side of The Doctor's personality. He is dangerous when he is angry, and an enemy that taunts him over his failure to save a friend, or that reminds him of the Time War, will make him even angrier. In his worst moments, The Doctor has let his enemies die to pay for their crimes rather than show them mercy. He is also quick to self-sacrifice, either in the literal sense of throwing himself into the fire or in the mental sense of giving up his good conscious and harming another rather than letting someone else bear the weight of the decision. In moments like this it takes a friend to remind him of his better nature; that he is kind and he doesn't have to throw away his morals or play the part of a villain to succeed. The Doctor has saved countless lives and entire galaxies but he still struggles to forgive himself and see himself the way his friends do.

Motivation: The Doctor enjoys exploring and seeing the extraordinary. Visiting an ancient planet in a pocket universe will sound very appealing, as well as being put in a position where he’s allowed to investigate and provided the tools to do it. He’ll be curious to find out more about the ancient race that created the planet, especially since their legacy sounds comparable to the Time Lords. He'll want to find out about their technology. He will also have the unspoken motive to watch what his fellow explorers will do. If he catches wind of plans that involve abusing Atreus or its treasures The Doctor will likely step in. He'll have been recruited directly, with the initial contact from the company reaching his Psychic Paper and a short meeting with Mr. Shelley.

Questionnaire: (I am so sorry he rambles.)

Q: WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS YOUR GREATEST STRENGTH?
Hmmm. I make an excellent omelet! …I’m joking. –Not about my omelets being great, that’s true. Back on topic, I’d say my greatest strength is my mind.

I would say it’s my “intelligence” but I don’t mean for my answer to be misunderstood. People love to limit what the word intelligence means to categorized school subjects. Math, science, maybe literature, but really all kinds of subjects ought to be included! Art, history- personally I prefer to experience the history first hand. -And all those subjects crisscross and mesh together in amazing ways. You understand don’t you?

You can have all the brute strength in the world and still get nowhere if you don’t have the smarts to get yourself out of trouble. I’ve been all around the universe through space and time for nine hundred years and I wouldn’t have made it without this. [He taps his forehead.]

Q: WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS YOUR GREATEST WEAKNESS?
Could have seen this question coming after that last one. [He clears his throat loudly.]

I’ve been told countless times that I’m too stubborn or that I’m too secretive. Time travel requires a certain amount of secrecy and boldness. Sometimes you have to tell a lie or make a difficult decision to keep a timeline the way it needs to be or to outwit an opponent. But I admit that there have been times when I really should have been more truthful. But I wasn’t. And those with me at the time deserved- deserve far better.

Q: RECALL A TIME YOU HAD TROUBLE WITH A COLLEAGUE AND HOW YOU HANDLED IT.
Oh! This is such an interview! Which question will be next? The one where you ask me where I see myself in a few years?

Uh. Yes there was one time where a companion of mine decided she liked me in a kissy-intimate sort of way which was a big problem since she was engaged to be married. I didn’t want to put a rift between her and her fiancé or let her do something she’d regret later- clearly she had gotten caught up in all the excitement of time travel- there was no need to throw away her relationship… Any way, I actually went straight to her fiancé after that and invited him to travel with us. The first place I brought them was Venice for a romantic get away. Great idea! Events didn’t turn out exactly how I had hoped. But uh later they did get married so the three of us traveling all together was a good solution after all.

Q: WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF FIVE YEARS FROM NOW?
I knew it! Can I skip this one since I guessed it right? No, I suppose I can’t can I? All right.

Five years from now can have more than one meaning to a time traveler. This is in Earth years, correct? I could actually travel forward to five years from today right now. I can try to guess what you’ll be doing then. Would like that? Then I can go see if I was right.

I know I’ll be out visiting another time, another place. Or maybe stopping by here for the job. We’ll see. Want to go see?

Q: IF YOU FOUND OUT YOUR SUPERVISOR WAS DOING SOMETHING AGAINST COMPANY POLICY, WHAT WOULD YOU DO?
Doing what? I don’t see a reason to get upset with my adviser over silly little policies against painting their office walls or keeping snacks in their pockets. You don’t have rules against those sort of things do you? That would be horrible!

If it’s really that bad and dangerous then I’ll let you know. In fact I’ll probably tell the entire company all at once via loud speaker or text message. –Is that what you use these days? Text message?

The Kid | Turbo Kid

Player Information
Name: Tetra
Journal: Your personal journal. This is not required.
Contact: [plurk.com profile] Tetradecimal ; AIM: Tetravolte
Characters Currently in the Game: N/A

Character Information
Character Name: The Kid
Canon: Turbo Kid
Canon Point: End of the film
Division and Position: Engineering. Although The Kid is kind of (sort of?) a superhero, it's only a recent development, and he's spent most of his time scavenging for parts and trying to stay out of trouble. He's pretty good at repairing his bike, and likely would be pretty decent at figuring out what's wrong with mechanical things -- particularly if he had training and was able to help other people.
History: Turbo Kid takes place in the post-apocalyptic future of 1997, when constant war, pollution, and nuclear disaster has wiped out most of humanity. Untainted drinking water is the most precious commodity there is, and many scratch out their living scavenging from the wastes. Automobiles are pretty much a thing of the past and the main mode of transportation is BMX bikes.

One survivor among the wastes is the Kid, an orphaned teenager who spends most of his life picking through junk, reading comics, and trying to avoid notice from the local warlord, Zeus, and his many henchmen. An avid fan of superheroes (particularly Turbo Rider), The Kid tries to maintain a sense of optimism in an admittedly grim world where even his fellow humans often push him around for being young and relatively weak.

One day while reading a Turbo Rider book in an abandoned playground, he meets a girl named Apple. Though they're literal strangers, he eventually gives in to her insistence that they become friends, and the rest of the film consists of their developing friendship and the ensuing conflict when the Kid and Apple attract the attention of Zeus.

Food in the world of Turbo Kid is relatively scarce, and it often must be bartered for at a trading post unless the denizens of the wastes want to take their chances eating mutated, misshapen wildlife. The land is mostly rock and dirt, devoid of trees, and water similarly comes at a high price. In The Kid's region, water is supplied by Zeus and is (unbeknownst to its residents) apparently supplied or supplemented by "juicing" humans -- people are murdered in gladiatorial matches and fed into a machine that extracts the water from their remains.

Though it seems that robots had a part to play in the apocalypse that destroyed the world, this is never really explored in great detail, and though Turbo Rider is presented as a comic book early on in the movie, The Kid later stumbles on the remains of a man who was apparently the real Turbo Rider, charged with fighting some sort of looming robot threat. During the film, it becomes obvious that some robots were undoubtedly antagonistic to humanity, but due to The Kid's surprised reaction whenever he encounters one, it seems that they are fairly rare. Apple is an example of a non-hostile robot.

Also notable about Turbo Kid is that its world is extremely violent (think Mad Max or Dead Alive), with The Kid apparently used to encountering heads stuck on pikes to serve as warning.

This trailer contains everything you need to know about Turbo Kid in a minute and a half: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFlZ6pVtnv0

Abilities: Turbo Armor: Mostly just regular armor, but its most notable aspect is that it comes with the Turbo Glove, an energy blaster attached to one arm that can fire up to five energy shots before it needs to recharge (which takes several minutes). One shot can vaporize something the size of a human body, though pieces (and copious amounts) of blood are often left behind.

The Kid himself is a perfectly normal teenager. His skills include scavenging, repairing bikes, and being fairly decent at surviving on his own. Also coping with loneliness and jury-rigging traps.

Because he's spent most of his life getting along on a bike, he's a very proficient rider and can do wheelies and jumps and things.

Personality: The Kid is basically your standard 80's sci-fi everyteen: quiet, unassuming, often pushed around by people bigger and stronger than he is. He spends most of his life scavenging and trading, trying to avoid trouble, and daydreaming about a better life as a superhero just like his idol, Turbo Rider. Having witnessed his parents' violent deaths at the hands of Zeus (and many more examples of brutality over the years), he's more inured than most to death, gore, and the general ugliness of life in a post-apocalyptic wasteland.

Nevertheless, he maintains a generally positive attitude. Self-sufficient and resourceful, The Kid manages to scrape out a life for himself in a world that is not particularly forgiving -- radioactive rat bites and all. He lives surrounded by items of comfort: toys, cereal, posters, comic books, the occasional working Walkman. He also lives alone, suspicious of strangers and always on the lookout for possible trouble.

This slowly changes when he meets a girl named Apple, whose enthusiasm and relentless friendliness quickly wear him down. For the first time in many years, he begins working to help someone other than himself -- he gets her a bike, he makes her a weapon -- he even braves a warlord's secret base to rescue her when she's kidnapped.

Apple also indirectly leads the Kid to find the Turbo Rider armor, which not only gives The Kid the power to face down Zeus and his henchmen (albeit with assistance from the other survivors of the wasteland), but also forces him into exactly the kind of perilous battle he's spent most of his life running from. Though he's very new at this superhero gig, The Kid is an eager student and naturally driven to help others. He remains a little hard on himself ("I just wish I could've done more... I wish I could have been more like the real Turbo Rider"), but after facing down Zeus and tracking down a new source of fresh water for the humans of the wasteland at the end of the film, The Kid is slowly developing a more positive attitude towards himself and his future.

Motivation: The Kid's motivation is to obtain the knowledge, parts, and other resources required to retrieve and fix Apple, his robot friend. He realizes this may be impossible, because he has no idea how she was assembled -- but he wants to try. He would have been easy to recruit with this goal in mind, and in any case it sounds like a better gig than living in a mostly-desert wasteland.
Questionnaire:

Q: WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS YOUR GREATEST STRENGTH?
Well, I mean... I'm pretty good at scavenging. And surviving. You've gotta be pretty alert if you're from... where I'm from. Stay in the safe zones, be careful about the rats...

[Wait, this was sounding depressing.]

Oh, but I'm hard-working. And I learn fast.

[He smiled.]

And I'm pretty brave.

Q: WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS YOUR GREATEST WEAKNESS?
I'm kind of new at all... this.

[He motions around with one hand to indicate his surroundings.]

I mean, don't get me wrong. I want to help. It's just that where I came from, you mostly avoided people. It was everyone for themselves.

Not that I'm bad at working on a team! Teams are great! Yeah.

[Awkward.]

Q: RECALL A TIME YOU HAD TROUBLE WITH A COLLEAGUE AND HOW YOU HANDLED IT.
I don't know... usually I just try to keep my head down and not get noticed. You know? Stay out of people's way. I'm better at fixing things, anyway. I guess there was that time Frederick shoved me around a little.

[Cough.]

But he turned out to be a good guy. He actually saved my bacon later, when I ended up collapsed in a robot graveyard.  I guess looks can be deceiving, huh?

Q: WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF FIVE YEARS FROM NOW?
I, uh. Really don't know.

Discovering new things? New life and new civilizations?

[Yeah, no. That sounded lame, even to him.]

I just... want to see what's around, I guess. I didn't really think there were any places like this. Where people were still working together, and... doing more than surviving.

Q: IF YOU FOUND OUT YOUR SUPERVISOR WAS DOING SOMETHING AGAINST COMPANY POLICY, WHAT WOULD YOU DO?
I'd report them, I guess. I mean, they have rules for a reason, right? They shouldn't be doing... whatever they're doing.

[That was kind of a lie. He had no idea what he'd do because it had never happened to him. Possibly, if they were forceful and insistent enough, he'd just let himself get railroaded along like a scrawny teenage doormat.]
